Granules or Raw Herbs?
“Why I Use Granules — Classical Medicine in a Modern Clinic”
Practising Classical Medicine in a Modern Rural Clinic: Staying Rooted While Adapting with Grace
Classical East Asian Medicine is a living tradition — and like all living things, it grows and adapts to its environment.
As a rural practitioner, I’ve come to embrace that reality fully — especially when it comes to the **form** of herbs I use.
While I have deep respect for raw herbal decoctions and the traditions behind them, the **practical realities of rural life** — limited clinic space, shared home kitchens, strong smells, compliance challenges — mean they’re not always viable.
That’s why I use **granules** in my practice. Not as a compromise — but as a conscious, classical choice rooted in *real-world wisdom*.
In this new podcast episode, I share:
* Why granules are safe, effective, and still faithful to the classics
* How CEAM thinking remains central, no matter the form of herbs
* The very real needs of rural patients (and practitioners!)
* Why adapting isn’t a loss — it’s a graceful return to function

CEAM is not about rigid perfection — it’s about right timing, balance, and context. This episode is one way I walk that line, every day. I hope it resonates.
Warmly,
